Konark Fm
Type Locality and Naming
SUBSURFACE: Well MND-2, Interval is 794 to 2697 m and thickness is 1903 m. [Original Publication: Raju D.S.N, Dwivedi R.N, Misra Ravi, Stratigraphy of Mahanadi Basin, (2009) pp 293-296 in Raju and Misra (2009), ONGC Bulletin, Vol. 44, no.2]. Reference well: MND-3; Interval Interval is 600-1758 m and thickness is 1158 m.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandy limestone. Predominantly shale with a few layers of sandy limestone. Development of patchy limestone has been noticed in the lower part of this unit in some wells. In the well MND-4, nearly 150 m thick argillaceous limestone is developed in the basal part of this unit. The thickness markedly increases from NW to SE and varies around 375 m in well MON-2 to nearly 1530 m in well MND-2

Fossils
Rich assemblage of planktic foraminifera recorded from the offshore wells. They include Paraglobotoratalia kugleri, Globigerinoides trilobus, G.altiaperturus, Globoquadrina dehiscens, G. insueta, Praeoubulina glomerosa, Fosella peripheroacuta, Orbulina universa, Globorotalia merotumida, G. pleiseotumida and several benthic foraminifera. In the offshore wells and MND-4 (offshore) where shallow marine facies occur Miogypsina (L) exventrica and M. (L) droogeri are found.
Age
Depositional setting
Outer shelf or bathyal conditions prevailed in offshore part of the basin.
